Due to the development of the British Library’s new Integrated Archives and Manuscripts System as the catalogue for all Archive and Manuscripts material, all new cataloguing since July 2009 can be found via Search our Catalogue: Archive and Manuscripts

We are currently in the process of migrating the data from this catalogue to the new system; when this migration is completed, it will be shut down. Until then users are advised to use both catalogues to search the British Library’s Archive and Manuscripts collections.

Use this website to search the main catalogues of the British Library's collection of Western manuscripts, covering handwritten documents of all kinds from pre-Christian, Classical, medieval and modern times.

You can
   •   perform an index search on names or selected subjects;
   •   carry out a descriptions search using keywords or manuscript references;
   •   read about the scope of the catalogue.

For information on how to use the system, see our search tips.

There are currently no images linked to this catalogue. To view selected images from the collection see Images Online or the Catalogue of Illuminated Manuscripts. To view full digital coverage of 284 Greek manuscripts see digitised manuscripts.
